So, Hi! My name is Richard Davis, also known by my online identities as nighthawk101 and StudioDavis. I'm a graphic designer and visual digital artist who has filled many different career roles in the past such as a DTP operator, production artist, retoucher, designer, concept artist, art director and creative director. I have been involved in art, design, prepress, printing and web development for over 15 years now.
In my full time work I predominately work with advertising, retail, and collateral media while specialize in prepress, conceptualizing and implementing designs for large format printing that involves complex die cutting and make up, along with my ability to solve technical issues in both design and IT. I'm always keen to learn and experiment as an artist and I've made good use of my free time creating personal artworks that are based on photographs that go through a heavy process of transformation, assemblage and detail that puts them closer to a pictorial expression that's both strange and surreal in a dreamlike emotive world.
My tools include Adobe CS5.5, Apple Mac G5, a passion for art and design, loud heavy music, and my creative bag of tricks which includes: surreal situations, monochromatic tones, contrast, solid lines, alignment, grids, cleanliness, focal points, simplicity, balance, empathy, emotivity, high craftsmanship, attention to the details, and a pure love for white space. Oh, and chocolate.
As for me! Well I'm a not so typical blonde haired and green eyed monster that lives under your bed and only comes out at night to feed on your bad dreams and nightmares. That was a lie. My eyes are blue and according to others I have nice long curly hair, good cheekbones and an agreeable posture. I'm an enthusiast of everything involving art, design, graphics, humour, music, history, alternate lifestyles and liberal views, science, technology, the cosmos and the wonders of life. I enjoy listening to BBC radio podcasts and whiling away my waking hours to music while occasionally watching documentaries and science fiction television series. But I can always be found to be lumbering around under the weight of a good book that's in need of reading. I'm influenced by some of the more prolific yet controversial characters of our time such as Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, Stephen Fry, Derren Brown, Douglas Adams, Brain Cox, Penn Jillette, John Cleese and Salvador Dali.
